Chennai based kid Gukesh has become the youngest grandmaster of the nation. He has achieved this feat with his victory in the ongoing 17th Delhi International open chess tournament. In this process, Gukesh went on to break the earlier record created by his friend R Pragnanandha in June 2018.

While Pragnanandha was 12 years and 10 months old when he became the grandmaster, Gukesh has achieved it in 12 years, 7 months and 17 days. However, it is this 17 days that has stopped him from becoming the world's youngest grandmaster, as the record is held by Ukraine's Sergey Karjakin who was 12 years and 7 months old when he created the record.

Gukesh is now the world's second youngest grandmaster, and he expressed that he was extremely happy for the achievement, and said he would like to play the legendary Vishwanathan Anand some day. Gukesh was quoted saying that now that he has become the Grandmaster, he can play big tournaments, and reach Super Grandmaster title.
