The ministry of foreign affairs of China said that Indian soldiers were "trespassing" into Chinese territory and has consequently put the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra on hold; pilgrims have to journey through the Nathu La pass in Sikkim to complete the yatra.

Lu Kang, a spokesperson for the ministry, said that the Chinese government "made enormous efforts to provide necessary convenience for those Indian pilgrims." When pilgrims tried to cross the sacred Nathu La pass, they were denied access due to damaged roads`.

Lu clarified the situation by saying that the Chinese government had to take "necessary actions" when some Indian border personnel trespassed into its territory, obstructing the routine work carried out by Chinese personnel, and added that the yatra can continue if the Indian side could "improve the security situation". Beijing has lodged a complaint with New Delhi regarding this issue.
