Four Engineering students from Coimbatore, who were sitting on a railway track in an inebriated state, were run over by the Chennai-Alleppey Express during the late hours on Wednesday.

The deceased men have been identified as D Siddique Raja (22), Rajasekar (20), M Gowtham (23), and Karuppasamy (24), while another man, M Vignesh (22), is currently receiving treatment after being severely injured. According to reports, two of the men were final year Civil Engineering students while the other two had joined them after finishing their arrear exams in the same college. Alcohol bottles and plastic cups lying near the tracks helped the police determine that the men were drunk during the time of the accident.

A case has been registered and an FIR has been filed. The investigation is in progress, while the bodies of the men have been sent in for autopsy.
