Covid-19: India to replace HCQ with HIV drugs

It's known that, as per a Health Ministry recommendation, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has been used as a prophylactic for asymptomatic healthcare workers engaged in the battle against Covid-19. Asymptomatic household contacts of confirmed cases have also been asked to use HCQ tablets.

However, with HCQ allegedly proving to be ineffective, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is reportedly thinking of recommending anew combination of drugs.

As per Economic Times, "HIV combination drugs and FDA-approved Ivermectin along with supplements of zinc and Vitamin C to improve immunity and possibly reduce viral replication" are likely to replace HCQ.

A new advisory may come from the ICMR and the Health Ministry to this effect in the coming days. There is no official word on this as yet.
