A section of the state's capital city that had mostly remained a dark secret, kept from being captured on screen, is finally finding its way to the silver screen, thanks to the maturity in audience that Kollywood has seen. Close on the heels of success story of 'Madras', there is news on another story brewing based on North Chennai. Titled 'Maari', the film is helmed by Balaji Mohan and stars Dhanush in the lead.

Impending release of 'Anegan' directed by KV Anand and his Bollywood project 'Shamitab', Dhanush has already started work on 'Maari', which went on floors two days ago, post positive feedback on the first look and title. Dhanush plays the role of a tailor in the film that casts Kajal Aggarwal as the heroine. It is worth mentioning that this is a special project for Kajal, as she herself put it, after her chance in 'Polladhavan', in which she was to have been the female lead, against Dhanush. Music for 'Maari' is composed by Chennaiyin Rockstar Anirudh, and the film is canned by Om Prakash. Listin Stephen, in association with actor-producer couple Radhikaa and Sarath Kumar, produce the film under their banner Magic Frames.
