It is stated in the corridors of power in the State Secretariat that Dinakaran, who has become a ‘thorn in the flesh’ as far as the ruling AIADMK in the State is concerned, might soon be disqualified as an MLA from R.K. Nagar in Chennai where polling was held last Friday.

Dinakarans’ victory humiliating the ruling AIADMK as well as the opposition DMK and the BJP hasn’t gone down well with State BJP leaders as well as the party’s Central office-bearers. The AIADMK feels insulted while the DMK has no words to explain its defeat at the hands of an independent. It is now reported that a process has been ‘kick-started’ which would see the ‘end’ of Dinakaran sooner than later.

Verdict in a couple of FERA violation cases against Dinakaran are about to be pronounced. Those in the powers of corridor at the Centre have been noting down each and every movement/utterance of Dinakaran and his supporters.  Already, a case has been filed against his close aide Vetrivel for leaking the ‘Jaya treatment video’ a day before the R.K. Nagar by-poll which put Dinakaran in an advantageous position.

Vetrivel’s anticipatory bail plea hasn’t been acted upon yet by the High Court of Madras. Dinakaran is to pay Rs.28 crores as penalty for paying Rs.72 crors as fixed deposit amount to Barclay Banks’ London branch way back in 1996, thus clearly violating FERA norms. The original penalty was Rs.32 crores but was later reduced to Rs.28 crores. Dinakaran has been dilly-dallying on the issue for a long time.

As and when he pays the amount, it would be tantamount to him agreeing that he had committed FERA violation and as such, he can’t continue to hold the post of MLA!
