Recently, in Rome, when an escalator suffered a breakdown, it injured several. Due to some technical issues, it started speeding up suddenly, resulting in the users falling down in hordes. They couldn't run away from the situation.

Before the escalator stopped after a few seconds, it hurt 24 people, one of whom could lose his leg. This happened at a metro station.

After this tragic incident, Italian consumer unions and other stakeholders are demanding measures from public authorities regarding proper maintenance and safety of escalators.

Perhaps, this incident is a wake-up call for Indians as well.
