Exit polls predict BJP sweeping polls in Nagaland, Meghalaya & Tripura

Exit polls have predicted that the ruling BJP at the Centre might make strong inroads in the North-East by upsetting the Communists, the NPF and the Congress in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya (respectively in that order).

Tripura voted on 18th February while Meghalaya and Nagaland voted yesterday (27th February). Counting of votes in all the three States would be taken up jointly on 03rd March (this Saturday). Both Meghalaya and Nagaland recorded a heavy voter turn-out of more than 75%, Election Commission sources said.

Exit poll results have predicted that the BJP might coast to power in Tripura upsetting the communists. BJP contested from 51 seats while its all, the Tripura People’s Front, contested from 09 seats while the Marxists (CPI-M) contested from 57 seats. Congress went alone this time, contesting from 59 seats. ‘Axis-My India’ exit polls have predicted the BJP to win 45-50 seats, thus bringing an end to the 25-year long Communist rule in the State.

In Nagaland, the BJP is predicted to win from 27-32 seats, leaving the Congress with merely 2 seats and the Nagalland People’s Front with 20-2 seats. BJP and Congress are predicted to win from 30 and 20 seats in Meghalaya. Whatever happens after counting of votes, political analysts say that the BJP is sure to gain a lot from the north-east Assembly polls.
