Now that India has reached the quarter finals of the World Cup Cricket, the coming weeks may be harder for the films at the box office. This week too, the big shots are stating away leaving the field to small players.

This Friday has Bhavani, Ayyan and Aivar for the Tamil audience and Anwar and ‘2011- Azhivin Aarambam’ are for the dubbing market.

Bhavani which should have released last week was pulld back due to last minute hitches, The director and producer Kicha is said to have solved them all paying a huge price. So at last Sneha is relieved of this ‘Vyjaynthi IPS’ remake.

She has been waiting for the release of Bhavani for almost six months. Her cop role which is modeled on Kiran Bedi is sure to increase her fan base. Bhavani IPS is worth a watch simply for Sneha.

‘Aivar’ is another film that was struggling for almost two months. It is finally releasing on this Friday. The film is all about friendship defined in a new angle. The film’s byline says friends are like God and Mother in one. It has all new comers - Vijay Anand, Ila, Perarasan, Hussain and Athulya in lead roles.

N. Priyan who assisted leading directors like Aabhavanan, Ezhilil and Badri has wielded the megaphone for the first time in ‘Aivar’. D. Saiprasad takes care of the story and screenplay. Music is by Kavi Periathambhi.

‘Ayyan’ is a film that is leaning more on the music of maestro Ilaitraja than anything else. This village based romance film has Vasan Karthik, son of comedian Singamuthu, as the hero. Directed by debutante AR Kendiran Muniyasamy, ‘Ayyan’ is already a known film by the songs. This should help the film to get noticed.

On the other side, ‘though ‘Anwar’ is called a dubbed film it will sound as the biggest film of the week.

It is the Tamil version of the Malayalam film by the same name starring Prakash Raj, Prithviraj, Mamta Mohandas in lead roles.

Anwar which is a stylish thriller set in the backdrop of terrorism. Loosely inspired from the Coimbatore serial blasts, the film talks about how the youth are purposely lured by terror modules operating in the country.

Prithviraj plays a terrorist and Prakash Raj is the chief of Anti-Terrorist Squad of Tamil Nadu police who is after the terrorists. Anwar is directed by Amal Neerad, a cinematographer-turned-director who started his career with Ram Gopal Varma’s Factory. ‘Anwar’ is said to be distributed by Surya’s home company Green Studio.

2011- Azhivin Aarambam’ is the Tamil version of the Sci-Fi Action Fantasy Thriller ‘World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles’ In this, earth is under attack from unknown alien invasion. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles represents the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. A Marine platoon faces off against the aliens in Los Angeles to save the earth.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, this film stars Michelle Rodriguez (Fast And Furious) and Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) among others. As always this film will be noted for its visual effects.

Some films that pulled out of the race in this week are ‘Nimidangal’, ‘Sagakkal’ and ‘Padai Soozha’.
