It's raining cricket at one side, however, there is no dampening the spirit of film-buffs despite the ICC World Cup season posing a challenge to the release of movies.

This week, the Kollywood box-office had four releases - 'Muthukku Muthaga', 'Avargalum Ivargalum', 'Minsaram' and 'Lathika', with each from a different genre, thereby providing a variety fare.

Muthukku Muthaga - In this fast- moving world where people run behind money, there is a need to have love and care, says Raasu Madhuravan. The filmmaker, who made films like 'Goripalayam', 'Pandi' and 'Mayandi Kudumbathar', is out with his next 'Muthukku Muthaga'.

He says, "The film would stress on reviving the joint family system and the need to live together". It is a movie that would have no action, violence or bloodshed, he says and adds, "It is an emotional drama and would appeal to all".

The film stars Ilavarasu, Saranya Ponvanna, Natraj, Vikranth, Hareesh, Veerasamar, Raghuvannan, Raj Kapoor, Oviya, Monicka and Sujibala.

Rasu Madhuravan further says, "Today the audience is ready to watch a movie provided it has a strong storyline and good screenplay. I am confident of Muthukku Muthaga doing well'.

Avargalum Ivargalum - Veerapandiyan, a former associate of National Award winning filmmaker Agathiyan and a writer is out with his maiden venture 'Avargalum Ivargalum'.

The movie is a romantic story of two pairs played by Vimal - Supraja and Satish - Aishwarya (who won the 'Manada Mayilada' title) and the struggles they face in the society after they elope.

"Actually it is a heart rending story which is based on a real life accident that took place in the city a few years back. Two lover couples who eloped from home were run over by a speeding train while crossing the railway track in Kodambakkam. The incident really shook me and I have added my imagination and woven a story", explains the director.

Kamaraj, a former National football champion produces the film apart from acting in a vital role. Agathiyan has also been roped in to play an important character.

Minsaram - Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan playing the role of a Chief Minister in 'Minsaram' besides penning a revolutionary song is the highlight of 'Minsaram'.

The movie, directed by M S Thamizharasan and Pazhani S Iliyas, is produced by Selva Kumaran. It stars newcomers Yuvaraj, Madhuchandha, Sujibala, 'En Uyir Thozhan' fame RamaKadhal Sukumar and Gana Ulaganathan among others.

"When I met Thirumavalavan and urged him to pen a song with a strong message to students in the movie, he promptly completed the task in four hours. T Devan has composed a catchy tune for the song," says the director.

He adds: "There was a Chief Minister's role in the film. I wanted Thirumavalavan to do it and he agreed to this request too. He extended co-operation and even dubbed his own voice."

The film is a crime thriller that speaks about the power of students. "We have tried to convey a strong message to society against crime and criminals".

Lathika - Produced, directed and enacted by Dr Srinivasan, who is hailed as 'Power Star' by his 'fans', (Is Tollywood's Pawan Kalyan watching?) 'Lathika' is a crime thriller.

Rahman plays a prominent role in the film. It is about a rich businessman enacted by the Power Star himself. He and his wife faces all troubles in life. They are targeted by a gang.

His daughter is kidnapped and he is made to run from pillar to post in search of her carrying the ransom demanded by the kidnappers. How the protagonist successfully crosses all hurdles is the crux. The Power Star has action, romance and comedy to perform.
