Many directors, through their grit and gumption have managed to break into the film industry successfully at a very young age. Atlee is one such talented youngster who is taking Kollywood by storm with his exceptional and entertaining movies.

Born Arun Kumar in the temple town of Madurai, Atlee spent his growing years in Chennai. Sure of what he wanted to become in the future, Atlee majored in Visual Communication from Sathyabhama University.

After his studies, the talented chap went on to work as an assistant for the legendary director Shankar. Atlee was under the tutelage of Shankar for a period of five years working alongside the director in films like 'Enthiran' and 'Nanban'.

The hard-working youngster became known widely after the release of his short movie titled 'Mugaputhagam' which had actor Sivakarthikeyan, Satish and Rajendran in important roles.
 
Atlee's debut directorial venture was 'Raja rani', a romantic drama revolving around two newlyweds coming to terms with their past relationships. The film became a commercial high grosser and huge success, especially among the youth audience. The young director was appreciated for his ability to dish out a well crafted movie the very first attempt.

Atlee and Thalapathy Vijay

Atlee's second film skyrocketed him to even higher skies when he joined hands with none other than Thalapathy Vijay for 'Theri'. The movie which revolves around a DCP in exile looking out for his daughter, was acclaimed for the portrayal of Vijay in an excellent manner. The father-daughter chemistry between Vijay and baby Nainika was much talked about. Thus Atlee earned an affectionate space in the hearts of Thalapathy fans.

Garnering the love and respect of fans in his very second film, Atlee's second outing with Vijay for 'Mersal' is a much anticipated movie of the year. The young director has given Thalpathy three distinct avatars as a village chief, a doctor and a magician in the film. Considering Atlee's previous film with the actor, Vijay fans are hyped up about 'Mersal' more than ever.

Adding to the celebratory vibe, the teaser for 'Mersal' also releases today at 6pm.
