Husband’s death gives Sasikala parole for 15 days

Natarajan, husband of Sasikala (former aide of former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa), passed away at a private hospital in Chennai in the wee hours of Tuesday after he was suffering from failure of multiple organs. Sasikala, a convict in the misappropriation of assets case, has since been granted parole for 15 days (till 03rd April) to attend the funeral and other related rituals.

Sasikala, who attempted to hijack the AIADMK and thus the Govt. led by it soon after the mysterious demise of Jayalalithaa, left the high-security Parappana Agrahara Prison complex in the afternoon to reach Thanjavur via Salem. The prison authorities, however, have imposed several restrictions on Sasikala’s movement. First and foremost of the conditions were that she shouldn’t leave Thanjavur during the parole.

Prison authorities agreed to Sasikala’s request to be allowed to go out on parole only after the news of Natarajan’s death was received.  After a physical check-up, she was let out on parole with heavy security. She left by road along with Pugazhendhi and few others.  Sasikala has been advised not to talk to the print and television media or take part in any public meetings.

She has also been barred from meeting politicians or others and using her cellphone. She is to report back to her prison cell by the afternoon of 03rd April.
