The craze to remake Rajini films is getting bigger. The recent inclusion to the list is ‘Johnny’, a cult hit directed by Mahendran that featured the Superstar in a dual role- an intelligent thief and an innocent barber.

If sources are to be believed, the Selva-Jeevan combo, which worked together for ‘Naan Avan Illai’ and ‘Thotta’, would come together to remake the 1980s film. Shooting would commence once they complete their third venture ‘Naan Avan Illai-II’, which is currently on floors.

It is said that Mayilsami would play the role played by Surulirajan in the original. Two popular actresses would play the heroines. A formal announcement is expected soon.

The first Rajini film to be remade was ‘Billa’. Ajith wore the shoes of Rajinikanth in the movie, which turned out to be a super hit. The Superstar’s son-in-law Dhanush, who has acted in films inspired by titles of his father-in-law’s films (Polladhavan and Padikadhavan), is now planning to remake’ Mappillai’.

Sundar C is currently acting in the remake of ‘Murattu Kaalai’. He is also acting with Sathyaraj in a film titled ‘Guru Sishyan’. The movie directed by Shakti Chidambaram is however no remake of a Rajini blockbuster of the same title.
