It’s a well known fact that liquor sales through TASMAC is one of the state’s prominent income earner. In the past 50 years of Dravidian politics, only a few years saw the materialization of the prohibition. Prohibition has been the unanimous demand of political parties and even masses in the state with protests erupting many times owing to the same reason.

Pertaining to this, Kamal Haasan who recently founded his Makkal Needhi Maiam Party gave out his straight direct opinions.  Saying that he was not in support of total prohibition of liquor, he openly confessed that the reason for the same was he himself isn’t able to let go off his favourite drink. Stating that one cannot change the entire society to not drink, he also stressd even if it happened it would lead to much more larger crimes than the ones which has been caused by liquor. He also opined that the body will not cooperate to let go off liquor in a drastic manner.

He also opined that parties resort to total prohibition in the hopes of gaining the favour of women voters. He also said that it was doubtful if a complete prohibition is a possibility. Furthermore Kamal also talked on his party principles, plans and stated that the centre should not push TN’s education behind through NEET exams.
