It is reported from Bangalore that the Siddaramaiah-led Congress Govt. in Karnataka might prefer filing a review against the Supreme Court’s verdict on Cauvery river water sharing row delivered a few weeks back.
The apex Court reduced Tamil Nadu’s share of water from 192 TMC to 177.25 TMC but considerably increased Karnataka’s share by awarding it more than what it bargained for. The Court delivered the verdict while taking up review petitions filed by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka challenging the 2007 verdict of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal.
The verdict also said that Tamil Nadu’s quantum of water had been reduced slightly so as to compensate for the drinking water and other needs of people of Bangalore and the many plants surround it. Govt. of Karnataka has now hinted that it might prefer filing a review of the verdict with the apex Court.
Karnataka might state in its review petition that Bangalore needed somewhere between 18-20 TMC water and may bargain for more water for (meeting) the city’s needs. It is also reported that the Congress Govt. is consulting with legal experts on further aspects to be made part of its review petition.
