Khosla Ka Ghosla is not the usual movie music album. I started listening to it expecting nothing and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The best number is an unconventional mix of Qawwali and Soumya Raoh's sensuous vocals in Intezaar Aitbar Tumse Pyaar. Ab Kya Karenge by Bapi Tutul is another composition that impresses with its novelty value in Adnan Sami's understated vocals. Chak De Phattey's Sweety Mix is funny and makes for nice listening. It is better than the original. Din Gin Gin and Is Se Pyaar Kaise Karoon are okey dokey numbers, though the instrumental version of Is Se Pyaar Kaise Karoon is one of the best things about this album. Jaideep Sahni's lyrics are first rate, and take this album a few notches above the usual. Khosla Ka Ghosla is a decent buy as it adds value to the range of your musical collection in its own special way.
Chak De Phatte is a mix of British Asian Underground music with the earthy raw vocals of Kailash Kher. The Dhol and the typical Punjabi manjeera melody is fused with the drum-n-bass of the Yo-Yo crowd. It has an interesting hook line, usage of innovative colloquial words like `Chak De Phattey', `Shoosha', `Phittey Moo', `Tedi Medi Bhasha' etc but overall it has a limited appeal. A chorus catch phrase `Voyahoo' (Also part of the promos doing the round on the telly) has a nice funny feel to it. The music by Dhruva Dhalla is innovative but it lacks the mass appeal one associates with Punjabi pop numbers. Kailash Kher is a good choice for singing this number and it's his singing style that adds value to this song.
The Chak De Phattey (Sweety Mix) is better than the original for the sheer no-holds-barred energy, dialogues from the films in the voices of Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Tara Sharma, Ashish Manchanda, Vinod Nagpal.But the best one is by Ranvir Shourie: `Yahaan Pishaab Karna Mana Hai'.(It's also a part of the promos). The slightly faster tempo, `Voyahoo' chorus line and the parting shot of a fine guitar solo makes for a Remix that you will enjoy listening a few times over.
Din Din Gin Gin is notable for decent lyrics by Jaideep Sahni but this Dhruv Dhalla composition has nothing outstanding to offer as a composition. The music arrangements are good especially the strings section flowing throughout the song, the piano fillers touch a chord but the melody lacks a gripping appeal. Even the usually reliable Kunal Ganjawala sings in a slightly awkward manner. Din Gin Gin Gin is a situational song that may make more sense along with the visuals in the film.
Iss Se Pyaar Kaise Karoon is once again a misplaced number by Dhruv Dhalla. If you want to make a romantic number, add that feel dude. Why put a heightened guitar rhythm hampering the groovy mood that you wish to instill in the listener. Singers Kunal Ganjawala and Sawmya Raoh sing dispassionately without adding anything extra. The repetition of the hook line at the closure is the only place where the song really follows a melodic pattern and registers in the mind. An average song is all I can say.
The instrumental version of Iss Se Pyaar Kaise Karoon is a much better effort. In fact it turns out to be one of the best things about this album. The piano in love caresses the acoustic guitar notes while the strings like the caring sky shelters innocence. I would love to listen to this version again and again. It has an unplugged feel and it's apparent that the music composer has followed his own instincts rather than bothering what others want. Check this one out.
