Mayawati questions PM’s silence on atrocities against Dalits

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president and former Uttar Pradesh chief-minister Mayawati has questioned the reason for the continued silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the atrocities being perpetrated against Dalits in the country.

Mayawati was in Karnataka yesterday to campaign in support of Janata Dal (Secular), with whom her party has forged an electoral alliance for the upcoming May 12 Karnataka Assembly polls.  JD(S) is headed by former prime-minister H.D. Deve Gowda.  A huge public meeting organized at the Mysore Maharaja College grounds was addressed by Mayawati and other leaders.

“I appeal to the people of Karnataka to vote for the alliance of JD(S) and the BSP.  Kumarasamy (former chief-minister and Deve Gowda’s son) alone can give a fair and corruption-free administration to the people of the State.  In Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and a few other States, Hindus have been tormenting Dalits in various forms.  Knowing everything, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been keeping silence without saying anything or acting constructively on any of those complaints of atrocities.

“Modi has pushed the Indian economy into oblivion.  People of the country have suffered enough for the past four years for their mistake of choosing Modi and the BJP.  As such, they are waiting for the general elections to vent out their anger.  Gowda’s experience would stand in good stead for Kumarasamy to rule the State if the alliance wins,” Mayawati concluded.
