Deva's Comeback Track
Monday, June 14, 2004 • Telugu Comments

Top Tamil composer Deva is composing music for a Telugu film after a long gap. The last we heard him was in the film `Bagunnara'. He does not disappoint his waiting fans. He has turned out a cluster of tunes, including a rehash of an old Tamil hit of his, that will appeal to several sections of the wide audience for film music.

The album opens with Cheppedhama in the mellifluous voices of S.P. Balasubramaniam and Anuradha Sriram. It has all the makings of a chartbuster - a soft-tune, a matching lyric and delightful rendering. Singer and actor S P Charan, who plays the lead role in the film, joins Krishnamraju and Sujatha to belt out Rukku Rukku. This is followed by Hei Tholiga Valapu, a fast-paced `Western' number rendered by versatile  `SP' along with Charan, Devan and Mamithi.

Side B starts with the folksy lilt of Peyta Peyta by Malathi Laxman. This is bound to be soon on the lips of the youth and the masses. .

Then, after a repetition of Cheppedhama comes the concluding song that is also the crown piece of the album..Kallu Kallu Illa is reminiscent of an old Tamil hit from Deva, but his success lies in making it sound so different in Telugu.

If Deva's ambition was to re-enter Telugu filmdom in a big way, the album has certainly paved the way for him.
