Niyathi is a new movie written and directed by Naveen Kumar who also plays the lead role. The story revolves around a private detective who handles his cases tactfully. One day an old man from the same town tells Naveen that his daughter is in love with a college librarian and asks him to inquire about him. While starting to investigate, the librarian unexpectedly falls in front of Naveen's car and dies. Not knowing what to do, Naveen takes the deceased in his car and buries him without anyone knowing.

The next day, a mysterious person calls and threatens the detective demanding that the body be brought to him. A curious Naveen takes out the body and searches for clues, finding a memory card on the corpse. The memory card contains shocking information and the rest of the screenplay of Niyathi deals with Who is the mysterious person threatening Naveen on the phone and Why?

Naveen, apart from directing and producing 'Niyathi' has done a neat job as the main protagonist. Anjana Babu as the female lead gains the sympathy of the audience with her natural acting. Gopika Suresh, the other female lead also has done what is required for her role. Theni Murugan has rendered an experienced performance especially in the portions involving him and Anjana Babu who plays his daughter.

What works in 'Niyathi' are the thriller elements and the twists and turns. The screenplay picks up pace after a slow start with the curiosity factor of what happens next working fairly well.

On the downside the film follows the usual crime thriller template especially in the second half. More effort could have been put in to make the film different from the usual run on the mill.

Music composer Jack Warrier has given the perfect background score for the crime thriller film. Prabhu Kannan's cinematography is a major strength of the film and so is the editing of Aju Wilbur. Naveen Kumar has tried to deliver a new age crime thriller and has succeeded to a certain extent considering the low budget. He has extracted good performances and has the potential for future projects.
