Our women, our newsmakers

On the occasion of International Women's Day, IndiaGlitz brings to you some of the interesting women newsmakers associated with the Telugu film industry.

Anushka

Years after portraying the iconic Arundhati, the talented Anushka Shetty re-invented herself in Year 2015 like no other. If in Rajamouli's Baahubali she was seen in the role of a captive fiery with undying and domineering spirit, it was in Gunashekar's Rudrama Devi that Anushka really mesmerized in a full-fledged role. In Size Zero, she was seen in one of the most under-rated performances of the year. After playing a warrior-queen, Anushka was grace and style personified in Size Zero.

Rashmi Gautam

The Jabardasth girl is a new newsmaker. Guntur Talkies mightn't have had a great run, but Rashmi Gautam is here to stay. Metamorphosing into a village belle, she played a bold role to begin with in her third innings. Even though she failed to succeed in the past, Rashmi is spirited and promises to zoom ahead. As a self-made woman, Rashmi is raring to break the rules.

Ramya Krishna

As Shivagami in Baahubali, Ramya Krishna was graceful and natural. As Rajamouli's fiery Rajamata in the magnum opus, she was a hand which upheld Baahubali. Coming next was Soggade Chinni Nayana, where she seemed to become some 20 years younger. Opposite Nagarjuna, she announced that she can still be the romantic pair that she was in her prime. She became a nationally famous, thanks to Baahubali, wowing audiences down South and in the North as well. Well, even the Chinese may find Ramya Krishna the strongwoman they like. In Krishna Vamsi's Rudraksha and in Kamal Haasan's film, shey may continue her streak in the coming years.

Amala

Akkineni Amala is one celebrity face who is most passionately and sincerely associated with animal rights. Besides being an active champion of animal rights, she has been making efforts to re-invent herself on screen. As she herself has said, the actress in her got a boost ever since she did Shekar Kammula's Life Is Beautiful. In the future, we hope to see her in author-backed roles. Smita

She was the first to make pop look sexy way back in late 1990s itself. A rare woman who took it upon herself to inspire members of the fairer sex to push the envelope and rise in life, her life should also inspire fathers to encourage their daughters to make a difference. It was her father who stirred her to come in front of the camera and not be content with staying behind the scenes. In the recent past, she has come up with an inspiring political video in the run up to the 2014 General Elections, an album inspired by Baahubali's Kilkili, and the serene and spiritual Nirvana Shatakam this Maha Shivratri.

Nandini Reddy

After Kalyana Vaibhogame, Nandini Reddy has unarguably emerged as a frontline director in Tollywood. Never the one to make others see her as belonging to the weaker sex, Nandini is a spirited woman who leads by example. In her films, we don't find a feminist perspective for the sake of it. Never the one to be preachy, she is the last one to wear her femininity on sleeves. In a male-dominated industry, this unmarried filmmaker is a one woman army for sure. Watch out as Nandini races ahead.

Anasuya Bharadwaj

From being a mini-celebrity to a celebrity now, Anasuya has burst open on the screen with gusto. From small screen to big screen, the transition is complete. In Kshanam, Anasuya is one of the major highlights. Through the years, she has held her ground. On Facebook, she is one rare TV face who has got 1 million likes. Surely, a newsmaker to reckon with.
