Plane crashes in Karachi; more than 90 on board

In a ghastly accident, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight today crashed in Karachi minutes before its scheduled landing, near Jinnah International Airport.

"It was approaching for landing when the accident took place. About 90 passengers were on board the Airbus aircraft," Geo News reports.

As reported by Hindustan Times, eyewitnesses said that "black smoke could be seen from afar at the crash site."

"The Airbus A320 appeared to attempt to land two or three times before crashing in a residential area near Jinnah International Airport," the report adds.

Pakistan's civil aviation authority didn't confirm if there were any casualties at the time of writing this.

Emergency has been declared in all major hospitals of Karachi.

Commenting on the development, a pilot said, "Fire trucks are at the sight....rescue operations are underway for PIA Airbus A320 crash site in Karachi. It is a congested urban area. This has been a terrible year all around. The wreckage and homes remain on fire with jet fuel."
