It is reported from the corridors of power at the State Secretariat, Chennai that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to inaugurate the State Government’s scooter-subsidy scheme for women.

It may be recalled that the late chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa had announced during her election campaign prior to the 2016 Assembly polls that working women would be provided subsidy for purchase of scooter. The EPS-OPS led State Govt. announced recently that the scheme would be inaugurated on 24th February (this Saturday) on the eve of the 70th birthday of the party’s ‘permanent’ general secretary Jayalalithaa.

More than 3 lakh applications forms were accepted in this regard and the process of scrutinizing them is going on.  It is now said that the Prime Minister has agreed to take part in the birth anniversary celebrations of the former chief-minister besides inaugurating the scooter subsidy scheme.

The Prime Minister is likely to visit Puducherry too during his tour to Chennai.
