Rahul Gandhi disbands Congress’ high-powered committee

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has disbanded the party’s high-powered governing council so as to enable him to constitute a new committee comprising his hand-picked members.

It may be noted that Rahul Ganhi, the Congress’ Prime Ministerial candidate during the last Lok Sabha polls, took over the party’s presidentship from his mother Sonia Gandhi (who had held the post for 19 long years) late last year after she kept facing health issues. Senior leaders proposed that it would be ideal if Rahul led the party’s charge against the BJP during next year’s Lok Sabha polls.

In an announcement made by Rahul Gandhi yesterday, it has been stated that the party’s Working Committee, the highest policy-making body comprising veteran leaders such as former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, P. Chidambaram and Ghulam Nabi Azad, has been disbanded.

Rahul is to soon release the names of members of the new Committee which is likely to include his mother Sonia Gandhi too.
