It looks like the ever-resourceful Ram Gopal Varma will be the first filmmaker to finally feature the two Bachchans together. Abhishek Bachchan will be playing his father's son in "Sarkaar", Varma's much talked-about adaptation of "The Godfather".

Though several projects featuring the two Bachchans were mooted, none except Raj Kumar Santoshi's "Ranveer", being produced by AB Corp. Ltd., has made it to the floors.

"Sarkaar", to go on the floors in September-October, features Amitabh Bachchan in Marlon Brando's role from "The Godfather".

Varma and the senior Bachchan have been in talks for a proposed project for several years. "But somehow it never really came to fruition. I'm glad we're finally working together, " says Amitabh Bachchan.

"It'd be quite a challenge to present Bachchan in a different light, and that too when his son Abhishek will also share the frames with him," says Varma.

The script for "Sarkaar", which is being readied, incorporates suggestions made by Amitabh Bachchan and has ample scope for Abhishek to play Michael Corleone - the role that made Al Pacino a superstar in "The Godfather".

Interestingly, Mahesh Manjrekar had almost finalised the same cast for his own take on "The Godfather" entitled "Kutumb" to be produced by Feroz Nadiadwala. The project was aborted when the producer didn't approve of Manjrekar's script.

Even more interestingly, Varma will discover the joys of directing both father and son Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan almost simultaneously.
