Rangasthalam success meet held amid fanfare

The success meet of 'Rangasthalam' was on Friday held in Hyderabad.  Power Star Pawan Kalyan graced it as the chief guest.  A highlight of the event is that every male member belonging to the film's cast and crew was seen wearing 'pancha'.

Jagapathi Babu said, "A distributor recently told me that the collections for 'Rangasthalam' have been flowing in like a flood.  Power Star being here has lent more power to our film.  Like everybody, I too like Pawan Kalyan garu a lot.  This is the best character in my career spanning decades.  I had always waited for a Bollywood opportunity.  And it has become a reality.  I will be acting with a big star in a Hindi movie.  I will announce it later.  Ram Charan acting chinchesadu anthe.  He owned Chitti Babu totally."

Rathnavelu described Sukumar as a wonderful director and a great friend.  "Ram Charan is a one-take hero, a phenomenal performer.  This film is close to my heart.  When I started working on this movie, my mother's health condition was critical.  Chiranjeevi garu then asked everybody to pray for her health.  She is now fine and recently watched 'Rangasthalam'.  She asked me to convey best wishes to you all," the cinematographer said.

Devi Sri Prasad said, "This film is very close to my heart.  I had always wanted to do a village-based movie.  Whenever Sukku bhai succeeds, I, Rathnavelu and others feel it's our success.  That's because he is such a nice human being."  DSP praised Rathnavelu's cinematography as sheer magic.  "Even low resolution shots that he does are like high resolution ones," he added.

Samantha said, "I am very happy to see the faces of our team members.  I saw them working very hard.  So, I am very content today.  I thank the audience for giving us this happiness.  You have given us a much bigger success than what we had imagined.  I will always remember Rama Lakshmi.  I thank Ram Charan, without whom Rama Lakshmi wouldn't be there.  I thank Pawan Kalyan garu for being here to bless us."

Sukumar introduced his direction department in a detailed way.  He described how each member is unique and helps him in directing a film.  "It's because of their contribution that I could make this film.

Ram Charan said, "I am not able to speak looking at Pawan Kalyan 'babai and the huge crowds here.  Sukumar is my favourite director.  He has given a film for cinema lovers and the Telugu film industry.  I congratulate my fellow actors and technicians.  I won't forget my parents' reactions on watching this movie.  My mother was speechless after watching it.  She held my hand, sat by my side, and had tears in her eyes.  This is the best compliment.  I wanted to go to Kalyan babai's house to request him to watch the movie.  To my surprise, he himself called me up and expressed his wish to watch it.  I offered to arrange a special screening at his house.  He said let's go for something else.  I offered a special preview.  He then said that his desire is to watch 'Rangasthalam' only in a theatre along with the audience.  This is his first movie in a theatre since 'Tholi Prema'.  I am still very much thrilled about this."

Pawan Kalyan said, "I thank my brothers and sisters who have come here to attend the event from faraway places.  This dais is too small to accommodate the many actors of this film.  They are extremely talented and experienced.  I wish that Rangasthalam will continue to break all records."

Power Star then said, "This film has made it to greatness not just in terms of collections.  'Rangasthalam' has made Indian cinema proud.  I congratulate Sukumar on making such a movie.  I congratulate also Mythri Movie Makers for standing by such a project.  I rarely watch my movies fully.  I couldn't watch 'Tholi Prema' at Sandhya Theatre (in Hyderabad) completely.  It was uncomfortable.  If I wanted to watch 'Rangasthalam' only in a theatre, it's because I am proud of Ram Charan for getting the highest critical applause.  The movie has bettered even 'The Godfather' and 'Shawshank Redemption' on IMDb in terms of ratings.  I wanted to find out what is there in the movie!"

He further said, "Watching it, I didn't feel like it's a movie.  It felt like life.  A film shouldn't merely break records.  It should inspire future generations.   'Rangasthalam', which is very close to reality, will do that!"

About Ram Charan, Power Star said, "The Charan I know is like a brother.  When I would be sleeping late in the morning as a youngster, he would go to a race club to learn horse-riding.  He has always been such a curious person wanting to learn something or the other.  He is a complete actor.  We have seen a different Charan in 'Magadheera'.  We have seen a different one in 'Rangasthalam'.  He is a pucca artist material.  I too have many wishes (about playing this or that kind of role).  But they don't happen every time.  Charan has done 'Rangasthalam' without any sense of shame about wearing a 'pancha'.  He grew a beard.  I don't often take lenience (chanuvu) with anybody.  Today I want to say 'Veedu' to him.  'Veedu naa thammudu'.  Annayya (Chiranjeevi) is my father, Vadinamma is my mother.  Charan has seen failures.  But never was he down.  The success of 'Rangasthalam' is just the beginning!  Charan will one day become an actor the whole Indian subcontinent will be proud of.  When I go to foreign countries, people talk to me about him.  Even those who don't know that I am his relative do so."

About the director, Pawan said, "Sukumar met me more than 10 years ago to narrate a story.  I didn't show much interest to listen to it.  Actually, I have always loved his movies right from his debut movie.  His films are very realistic."

He added, "'Rangasthalam' is worthy of an Oscar.  We should form a lobby and ensure that it is sent as India's official nominee.  We have to put aside our political and ideological differences aside and stand by this great film.  I loved 'Dangal' because it told our story, our struggle, our people's story.  'Rangasthalam' is similar.  It's about our people, our fights, our courage, etc.  We see a number of action and romantic films.  But 'Rangasthalam' is the story of the Telugu land."

He lauded DSP's foot-tapping music, Rathnavelu's talent, Chandrabose's unique lyrics, Ramakrishna-Monika's art direction, Jagapathi Babu and others.  "Samantha has done this movie at a time when everybody thought she will stop acting," Pawan said.

PS: The event was not without its hilarious moments.  Instead of saying 'NTV Chowdary garu', Ram Charan did a gaffe and said 'TV9 Chowdary garu'.  He immediately corrected himself, only to say that he hopes the faux pas won't be reported prominently.  This had Pawan Kalyan laughing out loud, with Chowdary beside him.  When it was his turn, Power Star said in a lighter vein, "I thank NTV Chowdary garu and not TV9 Chowdary garu for being here."
