Ranvir Shorey on why he doesnt enough lead roles

Ranvir Shorey is one of the most skilled yet underutilised actor of Bollywood. He has been part of several critically acclaimed films but despite that, he never got the recognition or kind of roles that justified his talent. In a recent interview with ETimes, Ranvir looked back at his career and talked about why he didn't get too many leading roles.

He stated, "One is maybe because I do character roles so the producers and writers see me only as a character actor. Another reason could be that lead roles are meant for a certain class of people to which I don’t belong. There could be multiple reasons."

Ranvir went to add how his father being a filmmaker affected his career. He said, "It didn’t work in my favour. Because my father was in with seven big families – the cartel. He was a small producer. So, even in association politics, he was standing up for smaller producers. So, my father was from the shallow end of the pool. So, I wouldn’t say that it helped me. But it worked as a handicap because suddenly there's a glass ceiling. You’re thought of as this guy who should do only this much. Not better than that. Somewhere it affected my career but nothing which I care for."

Talking about his latest film 'Mid Day Meeal', Ranvir said, "Mid Day Meeal is a film that has a social theme at its core but it also has a very good screenplay. It offered me an interesting part, something which I have never played before. It is very exciting and inspiring for me when a writer or director sees the potential in me to play something I haven’t done earlier. These are the two key things that attracted me to the film."
