As you are gearing up to watch ‘Rang De Basanti’ on Star Plus coming August 20th check out some exclusive trivia related with the landmark film only on IndiaGlitz:

* The film was to be made both in Hindi and English versions. The English version was to be titled “Paint It Yellow”. The plans for the English version were dropped subsequently. In India, the color of yellow represents sacrifice.

* When someone says, “Manne rang de basanti”, (“paint me yellow”) it means that person is ready to be sacrificed for a great cause. Yellow is also a predominant color in the movie.

* Aamir Khan was initially uncertain about taking on the role of DJ, as he was in his 40s and the character DJ was a 25 year old Punjabi in the film.

* Aamir Khan eventually accepted the role but knew that he had to work on his accent that he had to build into the character. So while the dialogue coach on the sets was training Alice with her Hindi, Aamir was being trained for his Punjabi speech and accents.

* Hrithik Roshan turned down the role of Karan which was eventually played by South Superstar Siddharth.

* Shah Rukh Khan was the original choice for Flight Lieutenant Ajay Rathod’s character, but he couldn't do it owing to his busy schedule. This cameo turned out to be the best bet of Madhavan in his career in Bollywood.

* Rang De Bsanti is based on a poem written by Dushyant Kumar. It goes like this...

Aaj bhi jiska khoon na khola
Khoon nahi woh paani hai
Jo desh ke kaam na aaye
Woh bekaar jawaani hai.

* A.R Rehman worked on the music of this film for three years.

* Aamir’s favorite song in the movie is ‘Roobaroo’ as it brings out what these characters have gone through and what state they have reached.
