Richa Chadha has filed a defamation suit against actress Payal Ghosh, who had accused Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassing her and a number of other actresses, including Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi. However, both of them have refuted her Payal's claims and the former has filed a defamation suit against the actress for dragging her name in the case.

Richa Chadha filed the suit before the Bombay High Court against a news channel and actor Kamaal R Khan as well, seeking 1.1 crore in damages. The statement from Richa Chadha's advocate read, "Our Client 'Ms. Richa Chadha', condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a derogatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties. Though our Client believes that genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs, there are legislations that are intended to ensure that women have an equal standing in their workplace and to ensure that they have a cordial workplace in which their dignity and self-respect is protected. No woman should misuse their liberties to harass other women with unsubstantiated or non-existent, false and baseless allegations. Our Client has initiated appropriate legal action and shall further pursue her legal rights and remedies in law as may be advised in her best interest. Sd/- Adv Saveena Bedi Sachar, Lawhive Associates."

Richa Chadha, in her suit, reportedly said that the statements made against her have "subjected her to immense humiliation, ridicule, unwanted speculation, harassment, harsh public scrutiny and loss of business opportunities and goodwill thereby causing tremendous stress and mental agony." Seeking affidavit of notice from Chadha by October 6, the court adjourned the case till October 7.
