On Sunday, a few Tamil-language news channels reported that legendary singer S. Janaki is no more.  Before this, social media witnessed the amplification of the false rumour, with even a couple of blue-tick journalists falling for the misleading reports.

The news is that the horrific rumour has been scotched by Janaki's son Murali Krishna himself.  He said that the veteran playback singer had recently undergone surgery and is recovering from it.  As per his official statement, Janaki is now doing fine.

The multi-lingual singer, a household name in south India, has to her credit something like 48,000 thousand songs in 17 Indian languages.  She has been a victim of unfounded social media rumours several times over the years.
