The past week witnessed a huge uproar and countless debates about whether Jyothika was right in mouthing a cuss word in Bala's 'Naachiyaar' teaser and the morality in Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli's character's decision to indulge in an extra marital affair in the short 'Lakshmi'.  The delight of every filmmaker worth his salt is to see his creation sparking reactions from the public and both Bala and KM. Sarjun must be in glee.

In defense of the filmmakers characters in film are individuals who are born from the imagination of the writer complete with their own traits.  'Naachiyaar''s Jyothika is a no-nonsense cop handling deadly criminals and anyone who have had any association with them will know that bad/cuss words are very much a dominant part of their vocabulary.  Jyothika should actually be praised as an actor for going deep into her character unmindful of her personal image.

In Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli's case debates surprisingly even by scribes consider  'Lakshmi' as a threat to the fabric of society and culture claiming that middle class women even when their husbands are insensitive or have affairs would bear it all for their children and will never seek an outlet for herself.  Obviously most of the trollers are not regular newspaper readers where ninety percent of the crimes are triggered due to passion.  Lakshmi is just one woman in a story who in her situation takes a decision for herself and is in no way a representative of other women in a society.  One might never know what others will do given the circumstances of the story and till then its best to see 'Naachiyaar' and 'Lakshmi' as stories and characters.
