Cinema ticket prices to go up as TN levies ET plus GST

The Tamil Nadu government has levied 10 percent Entertainment tax for new movies and 20 percent for other languages for cinema tickets which will be collected along with 28 pecent GST.  The ET for old movies exhibited in theaters will be 7 pecent and other languages 14 percent.

The new tax structure will come into effect from 27/9/2017 and this follows after discussions with representatives of Kollywood and the government conducting three rounds of talks.  It is also believed that the government will once again bring back the old system of waiving the ET for films that get U certificate and titled in Tamil.  We will have to wait and see how the industry reacts to this one.
