Ten Films That Almost Killed The Audience

Some noteworthy releases this year were phenomenally nonsensical.  We bring you a list of 10 of them.  Yes, there were far worse duds.  You will find them under Special Mentions.  From a star vehicle like 'Ruler' to hyped-up rom-coms like 'Mr. Majnu', this list has some unlikely names.

Note: Masterpieces like 'Vinaya Vidheya Rama' and 'Saaho' haven't been included in this.  We have covered them under a different head, they being special category duds!

Ruler

A film where a cop forgets his past, only to become a super-talented business tycoon overnight.  He transforms his business empire (that falls in lap almost from heavens) in one year flat, only to scream poetic abuses like 'Donga naa kodaka' and 'Bhosidike' later.  Directed by KS Ravikumar, this one has Nandamuri Balakrishna saving oppressed Telugus living in Uttar Pradesh, a problem that doesn't even exist in real life.  Vedhika is that Balayya fan in the movie who asks him to decipher her figure so that she can surgically get the 'wrong parts' shaped up.  God is kind to this reviewer, who has survived to tell you the tale.

Sita

This film proved once again that director Teja is a three-film wonder ('Chitram', 'Nuvvu Nenu', and 'Jayam').  Kajal Aggarwal is a businesswoman who enters into a silly contract with a villain, an unreal contract that would land the latter in jail in real life.  Even though the law is on her side, Kajal keeps fearing the worst.  Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas gave reaction shots rather than act in this stupid outing.

Mr. Majnu

A predictable film riddled with bland lines, familiar situations, convenient cliches and some laughable tropes, this one justifiably turned out to be Akhil Akkineni's third flop.  Immature characterizations, a second half that was punishing... this film had them all.  And what was that climax, please?

RDX Love

Payal Rajput was an anti-AIDS activist, a population-enhancing facilitator, a friend of farmers, a romantic woman -- everything rolled into one in this unforgiving disaster.  A whole episode dedicated to teaching housewives how to impress their dull-on-the-bed husbands was there in the movie.  That was the last nail in the coffin in a film that had several more such nightmarish scenes.

Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu

This one had the one purpose of putting Sakshi TV to shame with its pro-YSRCP and anti-TDP propaganda.  And it did that efficiently.  Co-writer Ram Gopal Varma cooked up enormously inane scenes by presenting a farcical drama in the second half.  Instead of Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan's characters, two rowdies occupied too much space.  The political fiction was proof that taking the audience's intelligence for granted can lead to heavy costs to reputation.  But RGV can't care less.  He knows how to speak crap and be in the news.

90ML

This farce proved that there is something fundamentally wrong in the way several directors think in Tollywood.  This one created a non-existent medical condition and hoped to raise Kartikeya's range to stardom by pitifully building a seriously silly action-romantic drama around a stupid idea. Just to give you a taste of its ridiculousness: The hero suffers from a syndrome that damns him to consume liquor thrice every single day.  If not, he will die a wretched death.  He tells about this to everyone except his girlfriend, who is the first one who needs to know about his condition.

Raju Gari Gadhi 3

The only good thing about this horror (horrible) movie is that it killed the brand name 'Raju Gari Gadhi' at once.  There won't be any more films after this title, hopefully, unless someone is mindless enough.  Director Ohmkar thought he has not got it in him to write even a wafer-thin storyline and so, he borrowed the story from a Tamil movie.  His brother Ashwin Babu was sought to be launched as a massy hero, something that has to rank among the biggest jokes of the year.

Thippara Meesam

A mother puts her child into a de-addiction centre, only to not meet him for three years, because the de-addiction centre doesn't let her do so!  And this son grows into a mother-hating rascal and runs away from home, only to be mechanically urged by his mother every 15 or 20 boring minutes to come back.  The director presented the hero's (Sree Vishnu) substance abuse, etc as some sort of subversive entertainment.  This affected, pseudo-intense movie was frustrating.

Aaviri

We became 'aaviri', the audience said after watching this Ravi Babu dud. Cheap thrills, pointless scares, an under-developed story, slow-paced narration, and above all, the gall the film had to call itself a horror-thriller when it couldn't scare even a 10-month-old infant.

Suryakantham

Mega Princess Niharika Konidela had her third (okay, let's just say Nth) flop. At a time when cinematic standards are being brought to the digital media by some, this film tried to do the opposite.  Web series-level entertainment was on display in this non-layered, simplistic rom-com.  That is to dignify it, actually.

Special Mentions

'Kathanam', 'Mithai', 'Where Is The Venkatalakshmi', 'Abhinetri 2', 'Viswamitra', 'First Rank Raju', 'Hippi', 'Guna 369', 'Jodi', 'Chanakya', 'Oorantha Anukuntunnaru', 'Raagala 24 Gantallo', 'Tholubommalata', 'Beach Road Chetan'.
