Bharathiraja booked for insulting Hindu Gods

Veteran Bharathiraja has been actively participating in the recent protests by directors condemning in Union Government's failure to form the Cauvery Management Board. The septuagenarian filmmaker has almost become an activist for the Tamil cause. Now he has been booked by the Vadapalani police for passing allegedly derogatory comments on Hindu Gods.

While addressing a gathering in a film related event on January 18, 2018 Bharathiraja had apparently said Lord Vinayaka is a God imported to Tamil Nadu which means he is not the original god of Tamils. A fringe outfit named Hindu Makkal Munnani has been offended by this and they have approached the Court on this.

The Court ordered the Police to file case against Bharathiraja if there is prima facie evidence that he has insulted Hindu Gods. Hence the Vadapalani police have registered a case against Bharathiraja.
