Kollywood is full of success stories, some of the overnight kind and many others of the “rags to riches” variety.  Few are bestowed with a steady ascension to the top like Sivakarthikeyan the most preferred entertainer of Tamil Nadu who is as popular with the youth as the children and the middle aged.  A journey that began as a mimicry artist on television SK with his sheer talent found a place in the hearts of the families which he carries on to the big screen to this day.

Siva the wholesome entertainer

Even during his television days Sivakarthikeyan had the uncanny charisma which made him standout in the crowd.  While most other performers needed help from the script he went extempore.  Whatever missives came to him from any quarters, he showed the ability to counter that and that is what made him special.  When the opportunity came for him to participate in a dance show he grabbed it with both hands and made a mark.

Silver Screen journey

Many filmmakers (mostly aspirants) saw the hero in SK quiet early and a few projects were in talks before Pandiraj made his move and snapped him up for ‘Marina’ in which he was more a reactive character to the story.  In the same year (2012) he featured in a supporting role in Aishwarya R Dhanush’s ‘3’ costarring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan and his very first film as solo hero ‘Manam Kothi Paravai’ directed by Ezhil which went on to become a hit of sorts.  Dhanush the producer warmed upto the potential and signed him for ‘Ethir Neechal’ directed by Durai Senthil Kumar which became his first super hit.  SK went on to match wits with Sathyaraj in ‘Varutha Padatha Valibar Sangam’ which took him to every nook and corner of the Tamil speaking world and the rest is history.  Today he is on the eve of Mohan Raja’s ‘Velaikkaran’ release, a film which has done business and is set to take a opening on par with the superstars of Kollywood.

Those who matter

It was Pandiraj who gave Sivakarthikeyan his big break and also another hit movie ‘Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga’. Then it was Dhanush who polished the rough gem and made it shine ever so brightly.  His  collaborations with Anirudh for music and Soori for comedy hits the bull eye every time not to forget D.Imman’s melodious contributions.  He enjoys impeccable chemistry with all his leading ladies be it Sri Divya, Oviya, Keerthi Suresh or Hansika.  His next pairs Nayanthara and Samantha are huge stars in their own rights.  The SK and RD Raja combo spells magic as the latter’s meticulous planning and business acumen has surely helped the former reach the top.

Sivakarthikeyan the Unstoppable

The future seems as bright as the present as after Mohan Raja’s content driven bonanza ‘Velaikkaran’, Siva has opted for variety in the form of Ponram’s rural entertainer with Samantha, Soori and Simran as costars.  Next in line is ‘Nettru Indru Naalai’ director Ravikumar’s supposed SciFi entertainer after which it would be with long time friend Vignesh Shivan which is said to be a youthful extravaganza.  The evidence suggests that no other star in Kollywood has had such a steady rise as Sivakarthikeyan to become universally accepted.  We can conclude that the ‘Velaikkaran’ with his star power and loyal fan following is surely on track to reach superstardom in Tamil cinema.
