Movie theaters have been experiencing a slump since a decision was made to stall the release of new movies by the members of Tamil Film Producers council. This drastic move was made opposing the state’s move to levy entertainment tax on top of GST.

Now, Vishal who holds office as the President of the TNPC has officially come with several demands with regards to the issue. The demands are as follows,
No selling of tickets more than Government alloted rates for each class and theater type.

Packaged products in theater complexes must be sold only in their Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

Amma drinking water bottles must be made available in theatres.

Theater complexes must allow people to bring their own water bottles inside.

Parking charges must fall in line with Government norms.

Surcharges on booking online tickets must be stopped.

Those theaters that override these rules must be complained about to the concerned officials with immediate effect and consequences.

TNPC has been consistently fighting against the state for their resolutions to be met with. Though the demands seem favorable for the common man, it will bear fruit only if the issue is resolved before the release of movies including ‘Mersal’ which is due release just in 5 days.
