A retired Indian Army colonel, Antony Wilson Amalraj, and his wife, pushed out their daughter-in-law Arthi from a moving car in Coimbatore. The colonel, his wife Kala Amalraj and their son Arun Jude Amalraj were travelling in the car with Arun’s wife Arthi. The incident took place on May 8th when they were going to Chennai. Arthi said: “When the car moved, my in-laws pushed me out. Arun, who was driving, did not stop the vehicle, which sped away.”

Arthi, after being treated in the hospital for the injuries she sustained, collected the CCTV footage from the houses in the area of the incident and put them together to submit as evidence to the Thudiyalur police. The cops have not yet caught the three, who are evading capture.

The couple who got married in 2008, have two children. They had been living separately for 4 years due to difference of opinions. Arthi reported: “Arun, an engineering graduate, earned well. But he used to harass me using harsh words. He used to turn aggressive for no reason. However, I did my best to continue the relationship. Soon, he started to avoid me completely.” Following this, she opted for divorce, but then remained in the relationship after mediation, for the sake of the children. Things were not all smooth after this. She said: “All of us left for Ooty for an excursion. But Arun fought with me again. I lodged a complaint with the Nilgiris district police and the issue was settled amicably. We returned to Coimbatore the next day.” The latest incident was being pushed out from the moving car. A case has been filed under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 498-A (cruelty to a woman against husband or relative of husband) of the Indian Penal Code.
