In the film though, Deol is anything but the happy family man, playing an obsessive, murderous husband.
Director Vikram Bhatt's thriller to be released Feb 11 is the tale of a tycoon (Deol), who falls in love, marries the woman of his dreams (Lara Dutta) and then - surprise - becomes Othello!
After 2002's "Humraaz", this is Deol's second foray into the dark emotional territory of sexual jealousy and marital suspicion.
In "Jurm", Deol's character is accused of murdering his wife. "I don't know, perhaps Bobby looks like a killer or something, which is why he gets those roles," joked co-star Dutta.
The actor would love to do a film with his father Dharmendra and elder brother Sunny. "But", he said regretfully, "The right script hasn't come along."
As a star son and scion of the Dharma production house, Bobby feels that the edge he has over other actors extends only as far his own talent goes.
"It's like this - as a star son, you are given a house. But how you decorate it will depend upon your talents and your taste."
Bobby cannot recall how many films he has made so far, but he knows how many blockbusters he has had.
"One. 'Soldier'," he said without any obvious embarrassment.
"Many stars benefit from the fact that the media makes their films sound larger than they are actually doing," he explained.
Working with Bhatt was a fantastic experience for Deol because the two are childhood friends. In fact, the film's USP, as far as Deol is concerned, is the fact that he got to work with his close friend.
"During the shoot, I took advantage of Vikram in every possible way," he laughed.
Deol's next film is the Priyanka Chopra-Bipasha Basu starrer "Barsaat". The film is about how members of the younger generation, who drift away from traditional family values under the influence of the West, eventually return to their roots.
"I signed 'Barsaat' specifically because I wanted to enter the records as one of those rare actors who have done two films with the same title within a very brief period of time," said Bobby with a straight face.
Incidentally, the music for the forthcoming "Barsaat" will be composed by Nadeem-Shravan, who also scored the music for Bobby's debut film, also called "Barsaat".
