20 years back, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were on top of the list for Indian audience as far as film imports from West were concerned. As action heroes, they made their presence felt in a major way in India.10 years back, the ones who were the flavour of the season were Pierce Brosnan, Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves.
On this side of the Millennium, the most unsuspecting of the lot has turned out to be Robert Downey Jr.
"What else explains the fact that he is pretty much on a double hat trick just in India", informs a trade source, "His last five films have been hits not just internationally but also in India.
Starting from 'Sherlock Holmes' , he has been on a dream run, what with 'Iron Man 2', 'Due Date' and 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' turning out to be successful with 'The Avengers' being the biggest of the lot."
It is widely anticipated that 'Iron Man 3' would make it six in a row, hence resulting in a double hat-trick for Robert Downey Jr., a feat which has been unparalleled by any international actor, whether in past or present.
"Going by the hype creation which has already begun for this successful franchise, this one should indeed turn out to be the case", says an industry insider, "UTV, which is distributing the film, has huge plans for it and spread out a massive campaign which is akin to that of any Bollywood biggie. They would open the film in India a week before its release in the US and bring it in IMAX 3D, 3D as well as the 2D version. Also, it would be dubbed in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil."
With talks of Robert returning for yet another instalment of 'Iron Man', 'The Avengers' as well as 'Sherlock Holmes', the man indeed appears to be a hot favourite in the making for India in years to come as well.
