Veteran Malayalam actor Mamukkoya passes away

Renowned Mollywood actor, Mamukkoya, passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday at around 1:05 pm. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode for the past few days before his demise. On April 24, Mamukkoya had suffered a heart attack while attending a football tournament in Malappuram and was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Vandoor. He was later transferred to another private hospital in Kozhikode for advanced treatment and had been on ventilator support.

Born in July 1946, Mamukkoya started his acting career in theatre and later made his debut in the Malayalam film industry in 1979 with ‘Anyarude Bhoomi’, directed by Nilambur Balan. He was known for his natural acting, versatile Mappila dialect, and effortless portrayal of humorous roles. Over the decades, Mamukkoya acted in over 450 movies and shared screen space with popular actors of Malayalam.

He has won two state awards, 'Perumazhakkalam' in 2004 and 'Innathe Chintha Vishayam' in 2008, and several other honours. Mamukkoya's most recent appearance was in Ashraf Hamza's romantic drama 'Sulaikha Manzil,' and he had multiple projects in the pipeline, including 'B Nilavarayum Sharjah Palliyum' and 'Nancy Rani.'

Mamukkoya is survived by his wife, Suhara, and their four children, Muhammed Nisar, Shahitha, Nadiya, and Abdul Rasheed. His passing is a significant loss to the Malayalam film industry, and he will be remembered for his outstanding contribution and talent in the entertainment world.
