Onnum Mindathe Review - Another Regular Jayaram Flick

It is quite sad that Mollywood is currently witnessing a dearth of quality and innovative storylines. Atleast that is what we surmise when we see in the title cards of 'Onnum Mindathe' where the film makers have credited the 1982 movie 'Aalolam' as the inspiration behind this . This story about infidelity and family life featuring may have Bharath Gopi, Nedumudi Venu and K R Vijaya may have worked well and good in the eighties, but not any more as we have been regularly bombarded with these type of movies , that neither inspire nor entertain.

'Onnum Mindathe' has Jayaram as Sachidanandan, an agriculture officer, happily married to Shyama (Meera Jasmine) living a good life with their only daughter Shivani, lovingly called by her parents as Kunji (Baby Anakha). Into their perfect family life, arrives Jose (Manoj K Jayan), from Gulf, who is Sachi's childhood friend. Jose whose wife and kids are yet to arrive in Kerala, provokes Sachi to break the monotony of his life by going for another woman Rose (Sarayu). And how this trial breaks havoc in the life of Sachi and Shyama forms the rest of the movie.

In another uninspiring remake, Sugeeth fails to lend any refreshing treatment to the age old tale  .  'Onnum Mindathe' has that 'already been to this ' feeling right from the start. The scripts by Rajesh Raghavan is devoid of appeal and often clichéd while Sugeeth , who made a perfect start with 'Ordinary'  is in the downward stride with his next movies.Right from the story lines to the performance of the actors including Jayaram and Meera Jasmine, every mannerisms and plot points remains the same, and doesn't graduates any further than the umpteen episodes of serials that we witness of mini screen. Manoj K Jayan does manage to give some life to the otherwise dumb proceedings. The others in the cast suit their respective roles.

In the technical sides cinematography by Faizal Ali is the highpoint of the film while  Suresh Kollam lends good support with his art direction. Though the background score is a bit  loud at times, songs by Anil Johnson  are not bad.

In the final count, 'Onnu mindathe' as its title reminds will not run on word of mouth, nor with its predictable threads.  Clichéd, ............

Rating -4.7/10
