Manam - A complete offering
IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, May 13, 2014]

When Anup Rubens was selected for Manam, it was perhaps not expected that someone known for his romantic songs will excel in doing justice to a demanding and different genre like Manam.  It turns out that Manam is a family entertainer with a difference.

If the trailer raised the bar, the album raises the bar even more.  A complete offering, it has entertaining songs with lyrics that can make you want to listen again and again.

Piyo Piyo Re

Lyricist: Anup Rubens
Artists:  Jaspreet Jasz, Anoop Rubens, Rap by Meghraj, Rahul & Chorus

No other song could have given that initial kick to the album.  The drunkard in distress act, which is one of the late legendary ANR's all-time classic acts, is used to good effect in the song.  The feel of the song is buoyant and it's a surprise package all the more because Anup Rubens' lines are simple yet catchy.  The artists do a neat job.

Kanulanu Thaake

Lyricist: Vanamali
Artists:  Arjith Singh

The romantic song is quite lyrical and has that thrum of playfulness running through it.  The longing of the lover is captured in meaningful poetry.  Although there is that routine Anup Rubens writ large, one enjoys the catchy chorus.  The juvenile sense the chorus brings makes the song soulful.  Arjith Singh's vocals lend it credibility.  Vanamali proves that he belongs to a rare breed of lyricists once again.

Chinni Chinni Aasalu

Lyricist: Chandrabose
Artists:  Shreya Ghoshal, Ashwin, Hari

The song begins with those oft-repeated Chini Chini words.  If the Chandrabose's lyrics are awesomely poetic, like the way they are in some of his best songs, the vocals are perfect.  Shreya Ghoshal joins Ashwin and Hari to perk up the song.  The tune is not memorable mainly because of its aura of deja vu.  The song will get on to your ears as you listen to it more and more.

Manam (Theme)

The theme song makes the album a complete one.  Although it is not haunting, it definitely has some good instrumentation.

Kani Penchina Maa Ammake

Lyricist: Chandrabose
Artists:  Master Bharath, Chorus

The song stands out for its beautiful lyrics.  The author-backed concept of the song probably is a defining moment in the film.  Or, it may be a song which captures the film's soul.  Master Bharath's juvenile vocals are refreshing.  Chandrabose's lyrics are, like for the Chinni Chnni number, laden with deep meaning.

Idhi Prema

Lyricist: Chandrabose
Artists:  Haricharan

The song is a repetition of Kani Penchina Maa Ammake with different vocals.  Haricharan and Anup Rubens make the song a memorable one.
