Rakhee - A good film with sister sentiment
IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, December 23, 2006]

It is a different film from Krishnavamsi's school. Though it is said that the basic theme is based on the sister sentiment, the hero of this film did not do much for his sister. However, he strives for the society and sees that no other girl would face the bad situation like his sister.

It looks Krishnavamsi had prepared the subject based on the newspaper reports, where an IAS officer harassing his wife, a teacher luring student for more marks, a doctor behaving indecently with innocent patients. Though the film had minor lapses here and there, Krishnavami's directorial abilities and NTR's abilities had covered them.

Rakhee (NTR) has a happy family including his father (Chandramohan), a TTE in railways, his grandfather (Kota Srinivasa Rao) and sister Gayatri (Manjusha) and brother (Brahmaji). Tripura (Ileana), a TV anchor is his neighbour. She always wants to report the women's problems. Tripura and Rakhee love each other. Gayatri gets an alliance and the groom (Ravi Varma) is about to settle in the US.

Rakhee sacrifices his love and accepts to marry his sister-in-law Gowri (Charmme) following an assurance by his aunt adjusts to adjust money. However, Gayatri gets killed in the hands of in-laws. Rakhee I a fit of rage and revenge kills Gayatri's in-laws.

DCP Meenakshi Iyer (Suhasini) gets an order to deal with the case. Rakhee kills Home Minister's (Sayaji Shinde) son (Raghu) along with his friends for the gangrape of a girl. He surrenders to the police and kills another person in the jail. Women's organisations stage protests demanding release of Rakhee. Hundreds of girls visit the prison to meet Rakhee. But the Home Minister plants a bomb and kills some of the girls, including Gowri, on the jail premises.

This irks the DCP Iyer, who takes Rakhee to the home minister's house and gets him killed through him. When the police produce him in court, Rakhee appeals to the judge to ensure safety to girls and women in the society. After pronouncing judgement to hang Rakhee, the judge (Prakash Raj) resigns to his post stating that he would argue on behalf of Rakhee as the society needs people like him.

NTR gave a tremendous performance both in sentiment as well as action scenes. Especially NTR's expressions before the interval bang i.e., at the burial ground are quite superb.

Ileana and Charmme played glam dolls in the film and did justice to their respective roles. Charmme is cute in village belle attire and her performance as an innocent girl is good. She, however, had got a very little chance to expose her beauty, except in a couple of songs.

Music is quite good to listen. Devisri Prasad gave melodious tunes and the re-recording is also okay. Dialogues before the climax would definitely make the audiences to rethink about the present system and the society.
