Lakshmi Manchu, who celebrates her birthday today (Oct 8), talks about her birthday resolution, next projects, and more.

How are you celebrating your birthday this time?

I am much like my father when it comes to celebrating birthdays in a big way. His birthdays are a festival for us in the family. When I was in the US, I would keep money aside so that I can throw big parties for my friends on my birthday. This time, I am spending half of the day with my fans. The rest of the day will be spent with my family members.

What is your birthday resolution?

I want to celebrate my next birthday in a bigger way than this. (Laughs). I don't make any resolutions in particular.

Tell us about the new TV show you are going to do, and also about the web series that has been mooted. Have you accepted any new film?

I will be hosting a show titled 'Fidaa' for a TV channel. As for the web series, it is about what happens in a married woman's life when she leaves the home and starts living on her own away from her husband for a week. It will be directed by Vamsi of 'Dongata' fame.

My next film will be with the People's Media Group. A debutante will be directing it. It will be announced by them soon.

Why are we not seeing you often in movies?

I don't want to do any and every movie. I did my last movie without considering all the factors. I want to be cautious from now.

What has hosting the show 'Memu Saitham' taught you?

It has taught me that adversity is a part of life. I used to brood over adversities in my life previously. I would not be accepting towards them. But once I started doing 'Memu Saitham', I got the strength to handle my travails. If giving back can bring happiness to some people's lives, what more can we ask for?

You have opposed Plaster of Plastic and traffic jams caused by VIPs. What makes you tweet about such issues?

We have to think about such issues. Our traditions shouldn't have any negative externalities. The other day, I was coming back from my restaurant to our house. What would have taken 20 minutes took much longer because of the traffic curbs imposed ahead of a politician's visit. Our politicians should roam among the people incognito like the kings used to do in ancient days. Only then will they come to know the inconveniences they are causing.

How do your followers receive your tweets?

I have got more than a million followers. Even five genuine followers are enough for me. But I don't tolerate it if someone trolls me anonymously. I have blocked the maximum number of folks perhaps.

How are you enjoying your motherhood?

I try to know what she wants in almost everything. Sometimes, she says 'No' just for my sake. I myself make out as to what she wants and ensure that she gets it. More than marriage, having children is very crucial. My daughter has brought gifts for me on my birthday.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

When I was in the sanctum sanctorum of Tirumala, someone remarked that I am like the Goddess Herself. That's the best compliment.
