Tension is rising in Doklam in Sikkim, where Indian and Chinese troops have been having a face-off since early June, as China issues a warning to India to “stop clamouring for war.”

China was clearly not happy with India upgrading its bunkers and buildings new ones along the Sikkim border and had bulldozered a few bunkers. Now, the People`s Liberation Army has taken to reminding India of the 1962 Sino-Indian war. “We hope that the particular person in the Indian Army could learn from historical lessons and stop such clamouring for war,” the PLA spokesperson said, referring to Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat`s remark that India was ready for war.

Bhutan`s Ministry of foreign affairs issued a strongly worded statement making it clear that it was not in favour of China continuing road work in Doklam, as the motorable road will make the border demarcation less clear.

In this backdrop, China claims that the area in which it tried to build roads has, in fact, belonged to it “since ancient times” and that it has proof to show that Indian troops had entered Chinese territory, but offered no further explanation.
