On Tuesday evening, the death of a 55-year-old patient turned into a major controversy at the Gandhi Hospital after relatives of the deceased Covid-19 patient assaulted doctors and ransacked furniture at the hospital. The patient allegedly died due to his own negligence.

After the incident of attack, scores of doctors and PG students sat on a dharna on the premises of the famous hospital. They demanded protection for doctors who are frontline workers battling the deadly virus.

It has been more than 12 hours and the situation continues to be tense. As per a report of The New Indian Express, at least 300 medicos have been on a dharna, demanding that the Health Minister of Telangana talk to them.

As reported by journalist Nitin B of The NewsMinute, doctors today pushed "their way past police barricades to stage a protest outside" the Gandhi Hospital. "They blocked the road outside the hospital and raised slogans demanding that the Telangana government offer better protection for doctors discharging their duties," he adds.

They want additional government hospitals to be deputed to treat Covid-19 patients. It seems Gandhi has been overburdened already. The doctors want transparency and strict adherence to ICMR guidelines.
