The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has on Monday taken one more step towards the abolition of the AP Legislative Council. The Cabinet passed a resolution calling for the abolition. The resolution will now be sent to the Assembly.

Approval by the Parliament will be sought later.

Recently, Jagan questioned the relevance of the Council when the Upper House referred to the Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions and Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bills to a select committee. With this, the plan to announce three capitals (Vizag, Amaravati and Kurnool) has seen a delay of at least three months.

The CM feels that the Council gobbles up Rs 60 Cr per annum. He deems it a wasteful expenditure. Moreover, just six States in the country have got a Council.
