After leading Mumbai Indians to victory in IPL 2020 that happened in UAE, batsman Rohit Sharma did not travel for the Australia tour with his Indian teammates. While people were left confused by the same, skipper Virat Kohli complained of the "lack of clarity" in the batsman's decision as well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now issued an official statement regarding the issue. The board has said that Rohit Sharma had to return to India from the UAE to be with his ailing father. The officials have also confirmed that the batsman is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and that his next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the Australia Tests. The BCCI has also announced that Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar trophy despite recovering completely from his side strain injury in the IPL 2020.

"He is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Mr Rohit Sharma's next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which the BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Mr Rohit Sharma had to come back to Mumbai after the IPL to attend his ailing father. His father is now recuperating well and that has allowed him to travel to the NCA and start his rehabilitation," the BCCI mentioned in its statement.

Earlier, Virat Kohli said that there was confusion and lack of proper information on Rohit Sharma's inclusion in the Australia tour. The captain stated, "Before the selection meeting, we got a mail that he is unavailable, that he has picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him and he understood and he was unavailable. After that (the selection meeting) he played in the IPL and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia and we had no information on why he is not travelling with us. There has been no information, there has been lack of clarity. We have been playing the waiting game."
