Former Indian batsman and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir sparked an outrage on social media after he said that Rohit Sharma was a better captain than Virat Kohli.

This is not the first time Gambhir has criticized Kohli's captaincy as he had mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Virat Kohli needed to step down as RCB's captain as the team had failed to secure a single title in the Indian Premier League so far. Stating that the players' IPL records needed to be taken into account, Gambhir pointed out that Rohit Sharma has fared well as a captain better than skipper Virat Kohli. "Virat Kohli is not a bad captain, but Rohit Sharma is a better captain. There is a vast difference between the quality of captaincy. If we choose players based on IPL performance, then why don't we choose a captain based on IPL performance? Else, don't keep IPL as a barometer for batting and bowling performances as well," Gambhir stated.

Taking a different stand on the matter, Aakash Chopra reportedly said, "Now is not the time for changes. There is no time for you to build a new team. If you want to apply new work ethics or new philosophy, there have to be games. If you're going to play 5-6 T20s before the next T20 World Cup, then I wouldn't like to fix something that’s unbroken." Gambhir's constant criticism of Virat Kohli as a captain has not gone down well with the latter's fans.
