Cauvery work has commenced as per SC’s direction: Water Resources Secretary

Union Water Resources Secretary Upendra Prasad Singh has said that the work on drafting the ‘plan of action’, as recommended by the Supreme Court with respect to sharing of Cauvery water by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, has commenced.

The Centre would file with the Supreme Court details of its action plan to ensure sharing of water by 03rd May, Singh assured and added that the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict based on the 2007 verdict of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal.  “Concerns of all the State Govt.’s would be addressed in the proposed action plan which is getting finalized,” he informed.

“Whatever be the name of the supervisory set-up – be it a board or a committee or a council, fair sharing of water by the concerned States would be ensured at any cost,” he said and added that nobody would object if Tamils called the supervisory body as ‘Cauvery Management Board’.

“Though the States view the verdict only from their respective angles, the Union Govt. views the verdict in the backdrop of the federal set-up,” Singh concluded.
