Contributions to Kerala more than Centres initial grant: CM

A special session of the Assembly was constituted after the floods ravaged Kerala recently. During the session, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) has received Rs 730 crore in terms of contributions in just 15 days.

For perspective, this is 21.70% more than the Rs 600 crore given by the Centre as an initial grant.

Help in the form of food, medicines, and clothes as well has been received by the state from across the country.

The Kerala Government has announced Rs 10,000 for the flood victims as a relief. About 3,91,494 families from 14 districts will benefit.

The state is estimated to have received 352.2 mm of rain between August 9 and 15, causing the worst ever floods in a century. As per the government's estimates, a loss of Rs 20,000 crore has been suffered by the state.
